The story behind Metallica Back in 1980 a man named Lars Ulrich asked James Hetfield to do vocals for a song he wrote. James accepted and Metallica was born. Cliff Burton and Dave Mustain came in for bass and lead guitar. Later Dave was kicked out of the band. He was replaced by Kirk Hammet. Also Cliff died in a bus accident on a tour in Europe. He was replaced by a man named Jason Newstead. Who after 14 years of playing with the band quit. Great news metallica fans!!! Metallica just started working on the new album in a secret recording studio in the bay area. We all wait with anticipation!!!
